Detour route under way for Allison Ranch Road

A detour route is under construction to use if the Allison Ranch Road slide area slips again this winter.

About 500 feet of the road was destroyed April 7 when rain-soaked soils above and underneath it began to slide into Wolf Creek. The road was temporarily repaired later in the year, but Nevada County officials wanted an alternative for the upcoming rainy season.

“We’re going to cut an 18-foot wide, all-weather rock road” on land above the slide, according to Jodi Bargsten of the county’s Department of Transportation and Sanitation. The detour will be used if any sliding occurs or conditions look dangerous.

Meanwhile, the county is having geotechnical studies done for a permanent solution for the slide area. It is located about one mile south of the North Star Museum in Grass Valley.
