Design of the times – Chamber of Commerce picks teddy bear display winner

Defending its title, the Fur Traders has again won top prize in the Nevada City Chamber of Commerce’s annual teddy bear window decorating contest, said Cathy Whittlesey, the Chamber’s executive manager.

The store’s 233 Broad St. window won the grand prize with a “Bear River Campground” display, which shows stuffed bears snuggling around a campfire.

Other winners are:

– Best Theme: Broad Street Furnishings at 210 Broad St.

– Oprah Bearfry award: Toad Hall Book Shop at 108 N. Pine St.

– Ted d’s Choice award: Summerwood at 312 Broad St.

– The Great Beardini award: The Magic Carpet at 408 Broad St.

The awards are given each year in conjunction with the Teddy Bear Convention, which began Friday and continues through Sunday at the Miners Foundry, 325 Spring St. in Nevada City.

The contest helps get downtowners and visitors in the mood for the convention, Whittlesey said.

Prizes include tickets to the convention and teddy bear T-shirts.
