A Truckee man was arrested in Virginia on marijuana charges, with the assistance of the Nevada County Sheriff’s Narcotics Task Force.

Detectives from Prince William County, Va., had been investigating Evan James Polk, 28, for several months, said a local task force spokesman. Polk, originally from Maryland, allegedly had been shipping pot from Nevada County to Virginia and selling it.

“He had been selling marijuana to an undercover officer,” the spokesman said. “They contacted us and requested our assistance.”

The Virginia detectives allegedly made several cash payments to Polk, at least one of which was handled by a Nevada County Sheriff’s deputy.

“They were paying him in small transactions to keep him on the line,” the spokesman said. “We did one hand-to-hand transaction.”

The detectives in Virginia reportedly arranged for Polk to fly to Prince William County for a drug transaction.

He was arrested Oct. 18 in Prince William County, allegedly with $50,000 in cash and two pounds of marijuana. Nevada County task force members served a search warrant at his Truckee residence the same day but found only some packaging material, the spokesman said.

Polk has been charged with three counts of possession with intent to distribute marijuana.

He is being held without bond and is scheduled to be in court Nov. 16.
