While many people were scurrying about with droves of other holiday shoppers on the weekend following Thanksgiving Day, 10 young men and four adult chaperons from the local DeMolay chapter, North Star, were with hundreds of other members at the annual Northern California DeMolay Convention in Sacramento.

Each year, young men gather together the day after Thanksgiving for three days of fun.

The young women of Rainbow Girls and Job’s Daughters join DeMolay members for banquets, dances, games, shows and competitions.

These young men also conduct elections and installations of officers and the initiation of new members.

North Star Chapter and its members returned from the weekend with several awards. Jimmy Fowler earned Ritualist of the Year, the chapter won Community Service and Chapter of the Year awards, and the chapter helped lead Superior Division to win the Spirit Award.

Three members from the North Star Chapter were elected as Superior Division officers for the coming year: Jimmy Fowler, master councilor; James McDaniels, senior councilor; and Drew Hedger, junior councilor.

Superior Division is comprised of seven chapters from Redding to Auburn. DeMolay is a Masonic-affiliated organization for young men, ages 12-21.

For information about DeMolay, contact Chapter Chairman Joseph Holman at 530-273-8420.
