Deadline set for ditch water users

The deadline’s been issued for some 80 households that use irrigation ditch water in their home and need to comply with new regulations that require the purchase of bottled water.

Nevada Irrigation District officials said Wednesday the 80 customers must comply by June 1 or have their ditch water shut off.

NID wants the customers to buy at least five gallons per month of bottled water from an approved source.

The order resulted from a deal NID worked out with state and federal regulators to comply with a new public health law that prohibits the use of canal water for drinking, cooking and oral hygiene.
