A Day of Peace will be celebrated from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. today at the Peace Center of Nevada County, 216-B Main St., downtown Nevada City.

Volunteers will have information about what is happening in western Nevada County and offer ideas for simple actions people can take to promote world peace.

Tea will be offered, and visitors can check out the library, sign a petition and join the Peace Center’s efforts to support the creation of a U.S. Department of Peace.

Local “Roots and Shoots” youth, who are part of a global youth effort spearheaded by Dr. Jane Goodall, will parade their giant Peace Dove Puppet through the Nevada City Market at 11 a.m.
