DAR to hear general speak at Grass Valley luncheon honoring vets

Captain John Oldham Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution, will hold a luncheon on Nov. 27 at Alta Sierra Country Club in Grass Valley to honor local veterans.

Their featured speaker will be Major General Kathy Thomas, who served over 30 years in the United States Air Force. She spent 15 years in the intelligence career field and, during the next 15 years, she was assigned to the military space program and retired as a highly decorated officer.

n She was the first female commander of an all male squadron

n She helped write the plan to fully integrate women into the USAF

n She was the first female General Office in all of US military Space

n She was the first female General Officer to be assigned to the USAF Academy

An honor Guard from VFW Post 2655 (Grass Valley) will be present to mark the occasion.
