Crash victim dies

A man whose pickup truck hit a power pole Sunday on Dog Bar Road died on the way to Sutter Roseville Medical Center, the California Highway Patrol reported Monday morning.

Christopher Marbry, 29, of Grass Valley, was driving a 1978 silver Chevrolet pickup northbound on Dog Bar at an unsafe speed, the CHP determined.

“Due to his intoxication, coupled with his unsafe speed, he failed to negotiate a turn in the roadway,” the CHP reported. Marbry entered a turn, drifted off the edge of the road and hit a Pacific Gas and Electric Co. power pole.

The force of the impact snapped the pole in half, and the upper portion landed on top of the truck cab.

After being extricated from the cab, Marbry was flown by Reach Air Ambulance to the hospital but died on the way, the CHP reported.

Rescue workers from the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection responded to the accident while Nevada County Sheriff’s deputies helped with traffic control.
