The survivor of an Aug. 24 crash on Allison Ranch Road, in which one man died, was upgraded from critical condition to serious Monday.

Erik Nelander, 29, of Grass Valley remained in Sutter Roseville Medical Center’s intensive care unit with head injuries, said a nursing supervisor.

Nelander was injured when the 1969 Datsun station wagon he was in crashed near North Star Mine Road around 7:20 p.m. Aug. 24. Nelander and Carl McCroskey, 30, were flown to Sutter Roseville for treatment. McCroskey died in surgery that night.
