Crash on Highway 49 turns deadly

One Auburn man is dead and another is being investigated for drug use after a crash Monday on Highway 49 in Placer County.

Noah Richens, 31, was pronounced dead at Sutter Auburn Faith Hospital Monday evening after he was reportedly broadsided by a BMW sedan as he drove his Pontiac Bonneville south on Highway 49 near Cramer Road.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the driver of the BMW, Sean Majkovica, 28, also of Auburn, crossed over the double yellow line, slammed into the Pontiac’s driver’s side, hit and sheared a power pole. Richens skidded off the road and ended up overturned in a drainage ditch.

Richens succumbed to his injuries shortly after 7 p.m. His passenger, Victoria Richens, 58 years old of Auburn, was lifeflighted to Sutter Roseville Medical Center with chest and abdominal pain, bruising and broken ribs.

Majkovica was transported via ambulance to Sutter Roseville Medical Center with chest pain, back pain and lacerations. His two children, Catarina, 2, and Lyliana, 1, were both restrained in carseats. They were treated and released at Sutter Roseville Medical Center.

CHP Officer Kelly Baraga said Majkovica showed signs of drug use and the cause of the collision is still under investigation.
