Crash kills woman

A 27-year-old Nevada County woman died early Monday morning in the Bay Area when she was ejected from the car in which she was a passenger.

Krista Griffiths died when the vehicle in which she was traveling on eastbound Interstate 80 just east of Highway 4 near Hercules swerved into the center divider and overturned, said California Highway Patrol Officer Ricky Franklin.

The CHP received a call at 2:31 a.m., Franklin said.

The 19-year-old male who was driving was trapped inside. The highway was closed down for an hour and the driver transported by helicopter to John Muir Medical Center in Walnut Creek, according to CHP reports.

The Nevada City man was in fair condition Monday afternoon with lacerations to his head and a fractured clavicle, a nursing supervisor said. His name has not yet been released.

The vehicle may have been traveling at 80 miles per hour, according to CHP reports.
