Couple arrested on theft charges

A couple was arrested by Nevada City Police officers after the pair allegedly tried to sell a woman her cell phone back for $100.

The woman had lost her cell phone in the 300 block of Sacramento Street at the end of September and had switched off the service, said Nevada City Police Lt. Lorin Gage.

She turned the phone service back on recently and called the number, and a man answered.

“He told her he had bought the phone for $100, and he would give it back to her for $100,” Gage said.

The woman contacted the police, who set up a transfer; the man allegedly told her his girlfriend would return the phone, and they agreed to meet at a Grass Valley movie theater.

The woman showed up and was arrested with the help of Grass Valley Police officers, Gage said. She allegedly initially gave a fake name but was identified as Alondra Dawn McClendon, 19.

Her boyfriend, identified as Robert Francis Carr, 24, also was arrested.

A search of the couple’s vehicle allegedly uncovered a GPS unit that had been reported stolen from a vehicle in Mill Valley.

Carr and McClendon were booked into county jail on suspicion of possessing stolen property. He was released on $10,000 bail, while she remained in custody in lieu of $10,000 bail.
