County Web site aids voters

Voters confused about where to vote can find out what district they are in by accessing the Nevada County Elections Web site at new.mynevadacounty.com/elections. Registered voters may also vote at the Elections Office, 10433 Willow Valley Road, Suite E, Nevada City, Monday through Friday, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. On Election Day, voting hours will be 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. With the March 2 primary election less than two weeks away, the Nevada County Elections Office is encouraging voters to verify their polling places. Voters who requested permanent absentee ballot status and those residing in small, mail-ballot only precincts were mailed their ballots Feb. 2. Any voter expecting an absentee ballot who has not yet received one should contact the Elections Office immediately, because Tuesday is the last day the Elections Office may mail a replacement ballot.

Voters in mail-ballot-only precincts who voted by mail in the Oct. 7, 2003, special statewide election will vote by mail again March 2. Polling places for the March primary election will be the same as those used in October.

The back cover of every voter information pamphlet lists the voter’s polling place location or the words, “Your precinct votes by mail only. Your ballot will be mailed to you.” Voters who reside in precincts with fewer than 250 voters must vote with an absentee ballot through the mail. Voters who reside in precincts with more than 250 voters are assigned to a polling place, but they have the option to vote with an absentee ballot through the mail if desired.

For more information, call the Elections Office at 265-1298, or, from Lake of the Pines or Truckee (within Nevada County) call toll-free (888) 395-1298.
