Council to consider ballot question, Sunday market

The Nevada City council tonight will consider whether to place a resolution on the November ballot calling for the city clerk and city treasurer positions to be appointed.

Both are now elected positions.

In addition, the council will discuss finding an interim replacement for Sheila Stein, who resigned from the council earlier this year. The interim city council member would serve until a replacement for Stein is elected in November.

The council also will consider a request from the owner of the Stonehouse Restaurant to hold a “Sunday Market in Nevada City” in its parking lot beginning on June 1 and continuing through Christmas.

Mimi Boardman, who owns the downtown Nevada City restaurant, said the market will go from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. and allow local residents to sell used items there. Artists and downtown merchants, however, could sell new items at the sale, according to Boardman’s proposal.

The meeting starts at 7 p.m. today at Nevada City Hall, 317 Broad Street.
