Consolidated firefighter injured in Hwy. 49 crash

A firefighter for Nevada County Consolidated Fire Protection District has a fractured spine and left arm after being hit by a van on Highway 49, officials said Monday.

Robert Tellam, 32, of Grass Valley, was southbound on Highway 49 on a 2000 Honda motorcycle at 9:30 p.m. Sunday when a van driven by Fouad Dahrouj, 47, of Chico, made a U-turn from the shoulder and struck Tellam, California Highway Patrol Officer Randy Gunning said.

Dahrouj was taken to Sierra Nevada Memorial Hospital with head injuries, Gunning said. Tellam was taken to Sutter Roseville Memorial Hospital.

Gunning said charges may be filed against Dahrouj following an investigation by the CHP.
