Concerned folks seek information on local man who’s gone missing
Where is Chuck?
That’s the question that’s on people’s minds at the Pine Street Market in Nevada City these days, where Charles “Chuck” Fromm, a homeless man, often came either as a customer or to do odd jobs for food money.
The 35-year-old Fromm, also known as “Rastafari” or “Garastafari,” stopped coming to the store, at the corner of South Pine and Commercial streets, sometime in late October, possibly after an altercation at a party at a unknown location, people on the street have reported.
His disappearance led Pine Street Market owner Wally Hagaman to file a missing person report last month. He did that after checking with the hospital, the jail and the Nevada City Police Department, he said.
Hagaman also distributed two dozen flyers in Nevada City and in the North San Juan and Cedar Ridge areas, where the missing man may have been. He and store manager Mark McNally continue to hope someone will come up with information on Fromm’s whereabouts.
“He was someone we saw daily,” Hagaman said. “He was a good friend… and Mark and I both felt somebody shouldn’t disappear without someone checking into it.”
McNally said people ask about Fromm all the time. “It’s been amazing how much concern there has been for him,” he said at the store Monday.
But so far, no luck.
Nevada County Sheriff’s Office Sgt. Ron Smith Monday said nothing has checked out and the investigation continues.
Smith said Fromm is considered a “voluntary missing adult,” someone who may have left on his own accord. The Sheriff’s Office will only be able to confirm that Fromm has been found, but not where, Smith said.
He is contacting the Social Security Administration because Fromm may use his social security number to get disability or other governmental aid, he said.
Jim Huth, a retired businessman, is among those who worry about Fromm, No disappearance should be ignored, said Huth in front of the store Monday.
“Everybody is important,” Huth said.
Description of Missing Man – Charles Fromm is described as 5 feet 8, 160 pounds, with hazel eyes and brown hair.
Who to Contact – Anyone with information, call Nevada County Sheriff1s Office Sgt. Ron Smith at 265-1263 or Wally Hagaman and Mark McNally at the Pine Street Market at 265-4417.
