Colder weather, possible showers on the way

Another fall weather system will arrive in western Nevada County today, bringing colder temperatures and a good chance for rain tonight.

The National Weather Service in Sacramento on Wednesday said the system is expected to arrive late this afternoon, bringing a 50 percent chance of rain for the evening.

There will also be a chance for one to two inches of snow at the higher elevations of the Sierra.

Temperatures should dip to around 60 today, with winds gusting up to 20 mph. Winds are expected to calm by tonight, but the temperature is expected to go down to the low 40s.

Those traveling or planning outdoor activities in the Sierra today and Friday should remember that conditions could get cold and wet quickly.

Temperatures will be in the high 50s Friday, with partly sunny conditions and winds around 10 mph. Friday night, temperatures will drop into the high 30s.

High temperatures are expected to climb back into the high 60s Saturday through Monday as the front passes and winds subside.

Night temperatures will remain in the low 40s to high 30s.
