Clinic to move to new building

The Miners Family Health Center is planning to move from Nevada City to a new facility in Grass Valley on June 1.

The health clinic on Zion Street in Nevada City is in a building too small to take care of its patient load, according to Executive Director Scott McFarland. The new building at 1345 Whispering Pines Lane in Grass Valley is on the Gold Country Stage bus route and has 150 parking spaces, McFarland said Friday.

“It gives us the opportunity to bring in more physicians and resources, and it enables us to recruit because we’ll have more accessible space,” McFarland said.

The health center has attracted the interest of a family physician, who could help fill the void of care doctors in Nevada County. The facility takes patients on MediCal and low-income programs.

“Every patient will get a letter explaining the move,” McFarland said. “It will be the same staff and same providers, just a different location.”

Ricki Heck, owner of Coldwell Banker Commercial real estate, has put the old Miners Clinic building up for sale for $2.6 million.

“We’ve had a lot of interest from medical-related groups and a local school,” Heck said. “It was built in 1939 (for area miners), but it has had many upgrades in the last five years. It’s not just an old, funky building.”
