Clearing the way

Firefighters razed a building along Rough and Ready Highway Thursday, making way for a long-awaited fire station.

The volunteer Rough and Ready Fire Department has been raising funds for years in hopes of replacing its current station, which is small, outdated and off the beaten path.

Federal stimulus money is contributing to the project, but also added extra layers of regulation and review.
