Cinema event to raise funds for suicide awareness

Friends of suicide victim Mike Bratton will gather this weekend at the Del Oro Theatre in Grass Valley to watch one of Bratton’s favorite movies and raise money for suicide awareness.

Bratton’s friends are holding a special showing of “Top Gun,” the movie Bratton and his friends loved to watch together, said event organizer Jillian Markey.

Bratton and his male friends used to sing the song from the movie – “You’ve Lost That Loving Feeling” by the Righteous Brothers – to the girls in their circle of friends, Markey said.

Bratton would have enjoyed a screening of the movie, she said.

“Top Gun,” rated PG, will be shown at 9 a.m. June 14 at the Del Oro Theater, 165 Mill St. in Grass Valley.

Tickets will be sold at the door for $10.

Proceeds will go to support Bratton’s 25 friends who are walking in the “Out of the Darkness” suicide prevention walk June 21-22 in Seattle.

“This is a great way to raise awareness,” Markey said.
