CHP: Stay safe over Labor Day weekend

Local officers will target drivers who drink and drive during the upcoming Labor Day weekend.

A sobriety checkpoint will occur from 8 p.m. to midnight on Friday, Aug. 29, at Nevada City Highway south of Brunswick Road.

“The holidays often see a rise in deaths and injuries, and Nevada County law enforcement officials will be out in force this Labor Day weekend to promote safe and sober driving,” the Grass Valley Police department said.

Nationally, nearly 16,000 people died in 2006, and California saw about 1,597 people killed in crashes involving a drunk driver in 2007.
