Child Advocates wins $25,000 grant for services

Child Advocates of Nevada County has received $25,000 from the United Auburn Indian Community to support programs to help area children.

Four programs that will be funded with the grant money are:

– Court-Appoited Special Advocates ” providing direct advocacy for children who have been victims of ause and neglect.

– Foothills healthy Babies ” an abuse and neglect prevention program offering one-on-one education in the homes of at-risk families with young children, teaching parents good child-rearing skills and strengthening the mother-child bond.

– Child Safety Puppet Show ” an education program offered in elementary school classrooms for students and teachers to learn how to spot and stop bullying.

– Family Ccnnections ” eliminates overlap and improves working relationships among area agencies and organizations working with children and families in Nevada County.

“We welcome the opportunity to partner with the United Auburn Indian Community over this next year to reduce the incidence of abuse and neglect of children in Nevada County and to help ensure that every child in our area grows up in a safe, healthy and nurturing environment,” said CANC Executive Director Darlene Downing.
