Celtic art enrichment

Headliners for this weekend’s Celtic Festival took time out to cultivate the generation that will carry on their art.

Scores of children from western Nevada County converged on the Nevada County Fairgrounds Friday afternoon with fiddles, flutes and the expectation of fun. They got tips on how to play their instruments and learned Irish step-dancing, Celtic-style guitar, magic, songwriting and theater.

The Youth Arts Program is the newest addition to KVMR’s 14-year-old festival gathering Celtic-inspired entertainers from around the world.

Instruction for children ages 10 to 18 was free. They also rehearsed for an integrated evening performance set for the last day of the festival. The Youth Showcase will start at 4 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 3.
