Car club journeys to Sacramento event
Using a Hollywood-through-the-years theme, the Roamin Angels car club out of Grass Valley will be competing both as a club and as individual entrants in the 55th Annual Sacramento Autorama at the Cal Expo this weekend.
The prestigious show draws classics, customs and street rods from all across California, and the Roamin Angels have won many awards for their club and their cars there. The title of their display this year is “Hollywood and Hot Rods.”
The Roamin Angels have created a glittering, 16-foot long “Hollywood” sign as part of a decor that includes life-sized cardboard Hollywood greats of the past such as Elvis and James Dean, a “Walk of Fame” like the one found on Hollywood Boulevard, real palm trees and even a red carpet leading to a red and white 1950 Cadillac Coupe-de-Ville.
Surrounding the Cadillac will be a rainbow of cars: a white 1966 Thunderbird, a yellow 1953 GMC pickup, an orange Ford T-Bucket roadster, a purple 1932 Ford five-window coupe, a dark blue 1940 Ford convertible, a light blue 1930 Buick Special, a light green 1957 Thunderbird, a dark green 1952 Ford Woody station wagon and a black 1947 Ford “Resto-Rod.”
For those who take the time to study the display more closely, there are original Hollywood photos, call sheets and scripts.
The Roamin Angels will be competing with numerous clubs for thematic excellence in the display, as well as against over 400 other incredible cars for individual awards.
Last year, the club won second place for its display, and of the 13 cars displayed, all of them won trophies or awards.
When they go to the Autorama, part of the community will go with the Roamin Angels. They will take a Chevrolet ZZ4 high-performance engine, donated by Weaver Automotive, that is raffled off to fund scholarships for local students. While there, they will sell raffle tickets for the engine to attendees of the Autorama. More tickets are sold there than any other single event where the engine is shown, so many Angels will be there to help in the sales.
The engine will be awarded to the winning ticket-holder at their 6th Annual Roamin Angels Car Show on Sept. 9-11 at the Nevada County Fairgrounds.
