Cancer awareness class offered by Nevada County Health and Human Service Agency

The Nevada County Health and Human Service Agency has partnered with the California Health Collaborative to host a free breast and cervical cancer screening, prevention and education class at the Brighton Greens Resource Center in Grass Valley on Tuesday.

The class will cover information on breast and cervical cancer screening, risk factors, prevention and resources for free screening through the Every Woman Counts Program.

“The American Cancer Society recommends getting annual mammograms from ages 45 to 54. The Center for Disease Control says to get a mammogram every two years between 50 and 74 years old. So which recommendation should you follow?” a news release on the class states. “As many as 93 percent of cervical cancers could be prevented by screening and HPV vaccination. So why do more than 4,000 people in the U.S. die of this disease every year?

“New information is coming out all of the time about breast and cervical cancer and this class will share the latest research and recommendations.”

The class is 10-11 a.m. Tuesday in the Yuba River Room at the Brighton Greens center, 988 McCourtney Road. No RSVP is required.
