Man injured after fall from bridge

A man is in serious condition after he fell 30 feet from the bridge at Purdon Crossing on the South Yuba River Saturday evening.

Casey L. Hendrick, 20, is listed in serious condition at Sutter Roseville Medical Center as of Sunday afternoon, according to a nursing supervisor at the hospital. Hendrick was airlifted Saturday night after a Nevada County Sheriff’s Department deputy and two park rangers found him under the bridge. No one else was around, park officials said.

“He broke most of the bones in his lower extremities,” said Battalion Chief Vern Canon of Nevada County Consolidated Fire.

The victim was conscious but seriously hurt when help arrived, Canon said.

The man was carried 100 yards downstream where a CALSTAR helicopter waited on a sandbar to transport him to the medical center.
