Old-fashioned Pops concert on Sunday

More than 90 musicians aged 13 to 93 will converge at Pioneer Park Sunday evening for the Nevada County Concert Band’s annual invitational picnic and pops concert.

In keeping with a theme of songs about water, musicians from Nevada County and beyond will play tunes such as “Moon River” and “Cry Me a River.”

The free concert begins at 5 p.m. at the park bandshell. For more information, call 272-6228 or go to

Red Dog, You Bet fire meeting set

Residents living on Red Dog and You Bet roads will get an update on a road clearing project and discuss a possible fire evacuation plan.

The Fire Safe Council of Nevada County will hold a meeting at the Peardale Fire Station from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday. State and local fire and emergency officials will discuss evacuation planning.

There is no county-wide evacuation plan because shifting fire conditions require flexible responses, fire officials have said. Wooded neighborhoods are responsible for drafting their own emergency exit strategies.

Tuesday’s discussion will include the completion of roadside clearing on the two roads to allow for safe passage of fire engines. The clearing was done with homeowner permission and funded with grant money.

For more information, call the fire safe council at 272-1122.
