Donation to fund troop care packages
A recent $1,000 donation from Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 535 to Friends of Nevada County Military will help fund care packages to United States troops stationed in Iraq and Afghanistan.
In the past two years, the Friends group has sent more than 1,000 care packages to Nevada County troops serving in the war effort, according to a Friends press release.
Friends of Nevada County Military formed in 2004.
Hall of Fame
Nominations for the Nevada County Fair’s Hall of Fame are now being accepted.
Each year, the fair recognizes people who have helped make the fair a success. Past inductees have included volunteers, exhibitors and concessionaires.
In 2006, Larry and Maciel Filer were inducted into the Hall of Fame. Larry Filer sold pigs to 4-H children so they could raise them for entry into the fair, was the announcer at horse shows and judged many fair events. Maciel Filer volunteered at a fair booth, attended daily and encouraged her children and grandchildren to attend.
If you would like to nominate someone, send the candidate’s name and a brief description of his or her contribution to the fair or the fairgrounds to Hall of Fame, Fairgrounds Office, P.O. Box 2687, Grass Valley 95945, by May 1.
