A Rough and Ready man suffered minor injuries early Sunday when the car he was driving veered off the Broad Street on-ramp westbound onto the Golden Center Freeway dropped over the edge about 60 feet and rolled over.

The California Highway Patrol responded to the wreck at 1:53 a.m. and found Richard A. Skaklisky, 47, with cuts and scratches all over his body. He was not transported for medical attention, CHP Officer Todd Labadie said.

Skaklisky had been driving a 1994 Ford Mustang. The officer noted alcohol on the driver’s breath but found he was within the legal limits.

The officer cited the driver for making an unsafe turn, and the vehicle was towed.

CHP officers did arrest eight other people on the highways for drunken driving from Friday to late Sunday, Labadie said.

Colfax man found dead off Hwy. 174

A Colfax man was found dead near his vehicle at 7:30 a.m. Saturday off Highway 174 at the Bear River bridge, according to dispatch reports from the Nevada County Sheriff’s Office.

The dispatch mentioned a possible gunshot wound but that could not be confirmed late Sunday with the Nevada County Sheriff’s Office.

Fishermen found the body in a parking area at the old bridge above a popular fishing spot, Sheriff’s Sgt. Bill Jones said Sunday.

Sheriff’s investigators are looking into the death, Jones said. Officials from the California Highway Patrol and the Colfax station of the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection also responded.

No further information was available late Sunday. Next of kin had been notified, though the man’s identity was not being released.
