The Food Bank of Nevada County is again getting questions from local supporters about solicitations coming in the mail, including one from a similarly named organization in Nevada.

Toni Thompson, executive director of the local food bank, wrote in a letter to The Union that she has been “inundated by questions and concerns” from residents who have received solicitations for the Food Bank of Northern Nevada and Volunteers of America.

Food Bank of Northern Nevada made a similar request for support last year. Officials of the Carson City, Nev., organization told Thompson then a direct mailing firm thought Nevada County was in Nevada and promised to forward donations intended for the local food bank.

Susan Escano, distribution coordinator for the Food Bank of Nevada County, said Thursday that Thompson has written a letter to her Nevada counterparts about the situation but has yet to receive a reply.

Volunteers of America is a Texas organization that solicits donations nationwide, she said.
