Briefly: Fire board, Medicare meeting

Fire boards for NSJ, Higgins, Consolidated to meet

The board of directors for the North San Juan Fire Protection District is scheduled to discuss the district manager’s salary at its next meeting Tuesday. Directors also will discuss applications for the board secretary position, and will hold a performance evaluation of the fire chief in closed session. The board will meet at 7 p.m. at the fire station, 13200 Tyler Foote Crossing Road. For more information, call 292-9159.

The board for the Higgins Area Fire Protection District meets at 7 p.m. Wednesday. The board is scheduled to discuss approving the Nevada County Emergency Service JPA agreement for emergency dispatch services. The meeting will be at the district offices, 10106 Combie Road. The board of directors for Nevada County Consolidated Fire District will meet at 7 p.m. Thursday at Fire Station 84, 10135 Coyote St., Nevada City. Items on the agenda include discussing medical benefits, contracting with an outside provider for an online fire policy manual service in order to replace the current personnel code. Medicare open enrollment meetings slated

Seniors and the permanently disabled can receive accurate information on the 2013 Medicare changes, choices, and benefits through a slate of upcoming discussions.

The open enrollment period for 2013 starts today and ends on Dec. 7. Open community meetings are being held to provide information on new options and direction on how to make changes to your plan.

There will be three community meetings in October: 2 p.m. today and Wednesday, Oct. 24, at Lumberjacks Restaurant across from the Fowler Center in Grass Valley; and 2 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 23, at the south county Round Table Pizza in Lake of the Pines.

Meetings are free of charge. Seniors turning 65 and older as well as the disabled should attend. Medicare specialist Bill Anderson serves hundreds in Nevada County and will be presenting the information.
