Breaking News – Latest vote count in, still too close to call

Following this morning’s count of 1,700-plus absentee ballots, Nevada County’s District 3 Supervisors race is still too close to call.

Incumbent Bruce Conklin did gain eight votes, but still trails challenger Drew Bedwell by 16 votes.

Before the outcome can be decided, about 280 provisional ballots still must be counted into the mix.

Those results should be released next week, according to clerk-recorder Lorraine Jewett-Burdick.

The final results will be certified by the county Elections Office at least by Dec. 3, she said.

Following the morning’s count, which wrapped up around noon, Bedwell asid he felt good about his chances.

“I think we will be successful, ultimately,” he said.

Old numbers (the unofficial semi-final count from election night):

-Bedwell: 3,314 votes, 50.03 percent

-Conklin:3,290 votes, 49.67 percent

New numbers following this morning’s canvass update:

-Bedell: 3,431 votes, 49.95 percent

-Conklin: 3,415, 49.72 percent
