Breaking News: Center for the Arts fund-raiser Friday will have guitarist

The Neighborhood Center for the Arts in Grass Valley closed Tuesday due to state funding be suspended for lack of a budget.

But the center is trying to rebound with a rally at 12:30 p.m. Friday in front of the Litton Building, 200 Litton Dr., Grass Valley. Guitarist Kyle Field is scheduled to play at the event.

The Neighborhood Center of the Arts is a nonprofit organization that helps 59 developmentally disabled clients be a part of the community. The clients create art projects which are sold in the community, giving them self worth and job.

Funding from the state of California makes up 94 percent of the $580,000 annual budget. Because the legislature is at a budget impasse, the center contends it wasn?t paid by the state for July and August services. That left the center with enough money to pay the staff through Tuesday. Now the center is in suspension, seeking interim funding until the budget is passed in Sacramento. See the full story in The Union tomorrow, Friday, Aug. 23. For information, call 272 – 7287.
