A man thought to be in his 60s was found dead Sunday morning in a vehicle stuck in snow along Gaston Road near Washington.

The man’s name was being withheld pending notification of his relatives, Lt. Jeff Powell of the Nevada County Sheriff’s Office said.

The officer also said that authorities have “a real strong idea of who it is.”

Foul play is not suspected, he said.

“There’s nothing to point to anything suspicious,” Powell said Sunday afternoon. “We don’t know why he was up there.”

Gaston Road, which is about three miles north of Washington, had received as much as 2 feet of snow over the weekend, according to local residents. Powell said sheriff’s deputies got stuck while driving to the scene but were eventually able to move the vehicle.

“The guys are taking the body to Chapel of the Angels,” he said. “We’ll process the car at our yard.”
