Body identified as Tahoe City resident

A Tahoe City woman who had gone missing while skiing with friends was found dead over the weekend by the Squaw Valley Ski Patrol.

The body of Sherry Elizabeth “Bitsy” Roessler, 25, was located just before 7 a.m. Saturday in some trees near the Squaw Creek chair lift. She had gone missing Thursday. Placer County sheriff’s investigators said it appears that Roessler collided with a tree.

Roessler’s body was transported to Auburn, where the coroner’s office will do an autopsy to determine her exact cause of death.

She was reported missing by friends on Friday at 12:50 p.m. Placer County sheriff’s officers, ski patrol and Tahoe Nordic Search and Rescue searched for Roessler Friday and resumed the search Saturday morning, when she was found.
