Body found in river identified

The body found in the American River near Auburn Saturday has been identified as Forest Benjamin Wax, 18, of Auburn.

Placer County Sheriff’s coroner’s officials used dental-record comparisons to identify the man who was first located by the sheriff’s helicopter crew late Saturday as they flew over the American River, near China Bar.

The crew had to halt its search Saturday as nighttime approached, but members of the sheriff’s dive team recovered the body Sunday and it was transported to the Placer County morgue.

Wax was considered a missing person since he was last seen jumping from the Foresthill Bridge Jan. 21.
