Board to wait on park parcel fee

Nevada County supervisors decided Tuesday to hold off on spending $30,000 to see if south county property owners would support a $20 annual parcel fee to fund the Bear River Recreation and Park District.

Instead of doing things piecemeal, supervisors expressed interest in holding four park and recreation district elections at once at a cost of $260,000, and directed staff to come up with a timeline.

The county would fund elections seeking $20 annual parcel fees for the Bear River district and Western Gateway Recreation and Park District.

County funding may help create and fund two new park and recreation districts: one on the San Juan Ridge and the so-called “Nisenan” district for the unincorporated area around Grass Valley/Nevada City.

If voters approve the parcel fees, the park districts would reimburse the county.
