Blood, marrow drive slated at GV church

The Grass Valley-Nevada City Community Blood Drive will be from noon to 6 p.m. March 21 at Grass Valley United Methodist Church, 236 S. Church St. The blood and bone marrow drive is in memory of Morgan Holtrop, the infant who died of leukemia in December.

An additional sample of blood is drawn for HLA tissue typing. Those who are found to be a potential match will be asked to become marrow donor.

Through special funding, the cost to join the registry is $25, instead of $90. This fee is available to the first 25 participants.

Blood donors must be at least age 17 (16 with parental consent), weigh at least 110 pounds, and be in generally good health. There is no upper age limit for donating.

Donors are asked to eat and drink fluids before donating and to bring a photo ID.

For more information, call Debbie Milios at 1-800-995-4420, ext. 675. For information about donating blood, visit the Web site at http://www.smfbc.org
