Beware of Managed Growth Initiative

The “Managed Growth” initiative which, if passed, will put decisions regarding approval/disapproval of developments to a public vote. My opinion is that the initiative is ill advised!

First of all, we elected City Council members to study issues brought before the council and make educated/informed decisions on those issues. The council members were elected with majority votes to represent those majorities.

Secondly, putting development proposals to a public vote, I feel, is dangerous because the voters, in general, would not be as appraised on the issues and may vote more on an emotional rather than an informed basis.

Mark Johnson, Mayor of Grass Valley, wrote an excellent article in the Saturday, May 3 issue of The Union on “A Vision for the Future of Grass Valley.” Everyone should read this! If you do, you would vote against the initiative.

Let’s let our City Council members do their job and not constrain/restrict them! Vote NO on the “Managed Growth” initiative!
