Bedwell issues challenge

Candidate Drew Bedwell has challenged incumbent Supervisor Bruce Conklin to engage in a “District 3 showdown at high noon.”

Bedwell issued the challenge because Conklin “called me ‘gall-durned chicken,’ a ‘black helicopter driver’ and a ‘nasty activist.’ Them thar’s fight’n words where I come from.

“Besides, everybody knows that I’m a moderate hawk, U.N. helicopters are blue, and I’m a proud CONSERVATIVE activist, not some tree-hugging, no good for nothing, whiner, big-government lackey. Other than that, Bruce is a nice guy.”

Bedwell then challenged Conklin to a showdown “at high noon” Oct. 19 at Memorial Park. Nine conditions were set for the two-hour debate. They include:

— “Robinson Enterprises will provide two stumps of sufficient size that both liberals and conservatives can stand on them. Bruce will be on the left stump (short) and Drew on the audience’s right (taller stump).”

— “A death certificate for the tree will be available for review by tree-rights advocates.”

— “Cookies will be provided by Drew Bedwell 2002 Campaign.”
