Beason to run again for supervisor

District 1 Supervisor Nate Beason announced he will run for re-election in 2008 because he has more work to accomplish on roads and wastewater in Nevada County.

“Overall, I think I’m having an impact. I think I’ll stick with it,” Beason said Thursday.

Since his election in 2004, Beason has helped secure millions of dollars for safety improvements at the intersection of La Barr Meadows Drive and Highway 49, he said.

Beason also cited his support for economic development, agriculture, strengthening law enforcement and expanding drug prevention and treatment programs.

Improving wastewater infrastructure in the Cascade Shores neighborhood and bringing small rural sewage issues to the state capitol also have been important to him, the supervisor said.

“I kind of like taking on the big guy,” Beason said.

When he was first elected, Beason promised himself he wouldn’t run again if he wasn’t effective, he said. But the number of encouraging comments from his constituents have outnumbered the negative, he said. He hasn’t grown tired of making county decisions, and his energy and persistence remain strong, Beason said.

Beason was a career naval officer and former business executive. Married for 41 years, he and his wife have two daughters and two granddaughters.
