Bear River High School Dramatics will present the play “Scheherazade,” adapted for the stage by Susan Pargman. The play, based on the classical story of “1001 Arabian Nights,” is a timeless story for all ages.

“Scheherazade” mixes together magic, mystery, revenge and comedy to produce a colorful play based on the legend of the greatest storyteller of the ancient Arabian world.

Scheherazade is called upon to use her tale-spinning talents to save her people from certain destruction.

Betrayed by his betrothed, the hot-tempered King Raynah decides to punish all the women in his kingdom. Armed only with her wit and just a smattering of magic, Scheherazade recites her stories for the king himself. Eventually her stories convince the king that revenge will not be the answer to his problems and she wins his love. This program showcases the talents of more than 20 Bear River High School students as cast and crew members.

Performances are at 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and again April 16, 17 and 18. There is also a 2 p.m. matinee April 18. Tickets are $10 each and may be reserved by calling 530-268-3700, ext. 4616 or through the BRHS student store at 11130 Magnolia Road, Grass Valley.
