Bark beetle workshop slated

In response to Nevada County’s worst outbreak of bark beetles in 20 years, the county Resource Conservation District and Natural Resources Conservation Service will co-sponsor a bark beetle workshop and field trip.

The workshop will be from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday at the Northern Mines Building, Nevada County Fairgrounds. The field trip will be led by registered professional foresters Eric Carr of the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection and Robert Ingram of Sierra Pacific Industries.

The workshop will begin with an audiovisual presentation about identification, signs, symptoms, management and control. A short walk on the fairgrounds will follow, where the public can see what conifer bark beetle infestations look like and find out how to combat the outbreak.
