Bank Street Cafe opens in Grass Valley

A cafe has opened at the Holiday Inn Express in Grass Valley, offering residents and hotel patrons a new spot to get a cup of java, bagel, salad or sandwich.

The Bank Street Cafe & Cold Food Catering is located at 109 Bank St. in the Holiday Inn building.

“We’re open seven days a week,” said Anny Ciukowski who manages the cafe for her mother, owner Barbara Hren.

The cafe opens at 7 a.m. and closes at 7 p.m., she said.

It offers breakfast and lunch specialties “and we do as much organic as possible,” Ciukowski said. “Today’s special was a pizza bagel, and we also do a stuffed avocado with tuna or chicken salad, and they go pretty quick.”

Organic coffees, teas, fruit juices, smoothies and even milk shakes are available, and hotel guests can get room service from the cafe.

Coffee tumblers and beans also are available along with teas and tea pots, Ciukowski said. One item, a flowering tea, “opens and blooms before your eyes,” when hot water is poured on it inside a clear pot.

The cafe also has a cold catering service offering trays of meat, cheese, fruits and vegetables.
