Assault rifles found during marijuana bust

A Grass Valley man was arrested on weapons and drugs charges after Nevada County narcotics task force members searched his residence on the 13000 block of Auburn Road.

Detectives served a warrant at about 8 a.m. Thursday at the home of Robert Lee Bowman, 41, to search for evidence of illegal marijuana cultivation, said county Sheriff Keith Royal.

Officers allegedly found both an indoor and an outdoor marijuana-growing operation, but the number of plants was not available.

They also allegedly found three illegal assault rifles and multiple illegal, high-capacity magazines, Royal said.

Bowman was arrested on suspicion of cultivating marijuana and possessing an assault weapon and large-capacity magazines. He was booked and released on $50,000 bail.
