A Nevada City man accused of molesting a teenage girl over a period of several years was arrested in Yreka on Monday.

The arrest came one day after the allegations were reported and local law authorities issued a lookout warning for 50-year-old Jerry Hopper across Northern California.

Hopper was arrested on suspicion of engaging in three or more acts of substantial sexual contact with a child under 14 years; participating in an act of oral copulation with a person under 14 years; committing a lewd act on a child under 14 years by force or violence; rape; and committing an act of oral copulation on a child under 14.

On Monday, the molesting allegations were reported to the sheriff’s office, which issued a warning to other counties and a warrant for Hopper’s arrest. He was assumed to be heading for Yreka or Medford, Ore., and his description, as well as that of his vehicle, a green Ford F-250 pickup, was provided in the alert to law-enforcement agencies.

At about 4 p.m., Yreka Police spotted Hopper’s truck in the driveway of a Yreka home. Several officers came to the scene because of the possibility that Hopper may have been armed with a .45-caliber handgun. As he was leaving the residence, officers stopped him and took him into custody without incident. No gun was located.

Tuesday, Nevada County detectives transported Hopper to Wayne Brown Correctional Facility. The sheriff’s investigation was expected to be forwarded to the district attorney’s office this morning.
