Allegedly abducted infant returned

A 9-month-old infant has been returned safely to her father after her mother violated a court order when she allegedly abducted the child from a day care facility.

The mother and child were found several hours later at a motel in Auburn.

At 8:12 a.m. Wednesday, the Grass Valley Police Department received a call of a parental abduction from a Grass Valley child care facility.

The mother, Alexia “Susan” Schlueter, 45, was visiting her 9-month-old daughter, Denali Vaughan, at a child-care facility, then took the baby and fled in violation of a restraining order, according to a press release from the Grass Valley Police Department.

The woman was arrested last November after firing shots outside her Penn Valley home when she mistook her ex-boyfriend and then-6-month-old baby for a trespasser, said Sgt. John Kropp of the Nevada County Sheriff’s Department.

At 11:50 a.m. Wednesday, deputies from the Placer County Sheriff’s Department and Grass Valley Police Department detectives located Schlueter and the baby in a motel in Auburn, where she was visiting her parents from Southern California.

Schlueter was booked into Wayne Brown Correctional Facility on suspicion of parental kidnapping and violation of a court order. The woman was still incarcerated as of Thursday morning and bail was set for $15,000.

Detectives returned the infant to her father.
