Additional wrecks over weekend

A Grass Valley woman was hospitalized after a weekend vehicle rollover on Highway 20 east of Nevada City.

Desia A. Smith, 40, was airlifted to Sutter Roseville Medical Center after her Dodge Intrepid rolled over while heading westbound on the highway east of White Cloud Campground at about 8 a.m. Saturday, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Hospital spokeswoman Robin Montgomery said Monday that Smith was no longer at the hospital.

In another weekend crash, a 37-year-old Nevada City woman’s legs were broken after she pursued a vehicle in her Toyota Corolla that she thought was stolen near Penn Valley, CHP spokesman Troy Marks said.

Barbara J. Ryan-Montgomery went by ambulance to Sierra Nevada Memorial Hospital, then to Sutter Roseville, where she was in good condition Monday.

At 2:40 p.m. Sunday on Indian Springs Road near Maidu Trail, Ryan-Montgomery tried to catch up to a Toyota Celica that she and her passenger, 21-year-old Jennefer Sorrells of Fair Oaks, believed was stolen, Marks said.

Ryan-Montgomery’s car rounded a curve and struck a 1973 Ford pickup driven by 28-year-old Jennie L. Groves of Grass Valley, Marks said. Groves and Sorrells complained of back pain.

Marks said no stolen-vehicle report has been filed regarding a Celica.
