Absentee ballots to be mailed

About 7,000 permanent absentee voter ballots for the Nov. 5 general election will be mailed Oct. 7 to Nevada County voters.

Permanent absentee voters need to follow state law and re-register to vote if they move. Otherwise, their ballots will be sent to their old address and returned to the Elections Office in the mail.

Anyone who requested permanent absentee voter status and has moved since the March primary election should complete a new voter registration card and mail it no later than Saturday.

If a voter believes he or she requested permanent absentee voter status and does not receive their ballot by Oct. 11, he or she should call the Elections Office at 265-1298 or 1-888-395-1298 from Lake of the Pines and Truckee within Nevada County.

Voters who did not previously sign up for permanent absentee voter status may still request an absentee ballot for Nov. 5 and request permanent absentee voter status in the future. The application for both those options is on the back of the sample ballot booklet mailed to every person who registers to vote by the Oct. 7 deadline.
