Assemblyman Sam Aanestad, R – Grass Valley, honored Betty Hood of Grass Valley as his 2002 Woman of the Year at recent ceremonies at the state Capitol.

All members of the state Assembly and Senate select a woman for the honor. Aanestad named Hood for her work on behalf of the Republican Party in Nevada County.

She has been active in Republican Women and served as chairwoman of the county Republican Central Committee from 1990 to 1994. She is also active in voter registration.

“It has been a privilege to know and work with Betty over the years,” Aanestad said. “Betty always has a smile on her face and a cheerful disposition. She puts her all into any task assigned to her.”

Hood and her husband of 55 years, John, have four grown children and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
